WaiWi – from Waidring to Wildseeloder
With its 3 daily stages, the WaiWi is quite a "short" long distance, but well worth it! 3 stages await you, where you can experience the varied and special mountainous Pillerseetal region! Clear the stage for your mountain experience at WaiWi!
Stage 3: From Wildseelodersee lake to Wildseeloder summit and down to Fieberbrunn
The third stage of the "WaiWi" starts here at Wildseeloder lake! Invigorated by a hearty mountain breakfast, take the steep flank to the right of the shelter, which leads to "Loders" summit, as it is called by the locals. As you leave the mountain lake, the path leads through a rock gate and opens up to new mountain views. Along the ridge, over the back of the mountain and from the south side to the summit! You have reached the highest point of the tour! From Waidring to Wildseeloder, at 2,118 m above sea level. Way up high, in the middle of the Kitzbühel Alps, the long-distance view is never-ending! Take time to stop and look back on the way at the Waiwi, with all its highlights, before proceeding to the last section of the tour, the descent to Fieberbrunn.
Via Seenieder and Wildalm pastures, the path leads down into the valley. A trip to the Wildalpgatterl mountain inn, is definitely well worth a visit. Here, art meets tradition. Bread is baked in-house in a clay oven, meat is supplied by neighboring farmers and berries and herbs are picked from their own garden. The descent continues along Forststraße road down to the Fieberbrunn mountain railways central station. Here, just behind Gasthof Streuböden Alm inn, is an adventure playground for young and old, set in the middle of nature. Timoks Alm mountain hut invites you to linger with an adventure trail, coaster cableway, forest cable car and playgrounds. On the right hand side of the coaster track, the path goes towards Speicherersee lake and shortly before that, turns left towards "Brent" and "Lauchsee" lakes. An even more direct route downhill leads to an asphalt road.
Here, above Lauchsees lake you will find the last farms of the valley, and you will see the Pletzergraben, which is a testimony to a long mining tradition in Fieberbrunn. In the 16th. century the mining industry flourished, and in both summer and winter, young boys made their way along the long, often dangerous route, and " Pillersee steel" was well-known! The St. Daniel Gebra chapel can be seen in the valley on the hill. Originally a baroque miner’ chapel in the former mining area of Fieberbrunn, this old, ruined chapel was rebuilt as a commemoration in 1975. The last 2.5 km of the WaiWi now lie ahead. Passing the Lauchsee bathing lake, after two or three curves you approach the center of Fieberbrunn. On the way to the village square, two cultural peculiarities are found below the church: the sculpture of a mining clan, reminiscent of the tradition and the hardships of the past, and the fever fountain, which cured princess Marguerite Maultasch of a fever.
On the square in front of the village center, the third stage ends, the summit of the Wildseelder looks down from above and the WaiWi is behind you. Three stages through the Pillersee Valley, which provide an insight into the varied and special mountainous region! Clear the stage for further mountain experiences in the Pillerseetal Valley!
